Laura Kung - 1 of 39

Laura Kung is an interdisciplinary artist and materials designer based in Portland, Oregon. Her work uses natural dyeing, weaving, and sewing to tell stories of belonging, identity, and place. I spent a day with her at her studio, shooting on medium format film while she worked at the loom, with her dyed fabric drying around the room. For some of the portraits we took her naturally dyed cloths outside and hung them in the sun. Watching them catch the light behind her felt magical, like the work and the maker had folded into one image. I am grateful I got to photograph her and her practice.
