A Sign of Hope Project, documenting and interviewing the homeless around Seattle (website) (kickstarter)
What brought me to capturing images was being able to save a moment in time. While making the transition in my life from Austin to Los Angeles I became extremely aware of the present. The beautiful now. There is nothing more than right now. As you read this sentence it is apparent and slightly obvious that this is the only moment that exists. So often what I find in human beings is the lack of being present and being aware of the now. Not focusing on the future for that wonderful vacation when all your problems go away. Not dwelling on the past of something that may have effected you in one way or another. But simply being in this present moment right now. Because really, right now is all we have. You here, in this moment. No matter where you are and what you’re doing. You will always be right there in that present moment. Most of my images have a certain feeling of nostalgia and beauty. With the beauty of my images comes the feeling of wishing to be there. Wishing to be in the photograph. The feeling of being a part of an almost “perfect” moment. It’s almost ironic, because the idea of a “perfect” moment is just that, an idea. It’s a dream that will never be tangible. And that’s my point. There is no perfect moment, because you’ll always be trying to find it. It’s letting go and realizing that all we have is right now.
